Evergreen Community Update #5

June 8, 2020

Evergreen Home for Special Care Family and Friends,

Evergreen continues to strictly follow directives from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Department of Health and Wellness and Public Health in relation to COVID-19. The safety of residents and staff is the top priority of Evergreen and we continue to make adjustments to our daily practices and pandemic plan.

As of today, June 8, there are no positive cases of COVID-19 at Evergreen Home for Special Care among residents or staff.

  • Although the province begins to open up and loosen restrictions in the general community, Evergreen and long-term care facilities remain closed to visitors at this time.

  • Evergreen continues to operate with many precautions and restrictions in place for safety of our residents and staff. We have thorough and detailed plans in place, in the event that we have resident(s) who test positive for COVID-19.

  • Plans are currently being put in place for our hairdresser to return for some much needed cuts and styling! The hairdresser shop is a very important piece to the Evergreen community and guidelines will be in place to ensure staff and residents are safe, including wearing proper PPE, scheduling residents in advance, and extra cleaning procedures.

  • In addition to all of the wonderful small group and 1:1 programming done by recreation and chaplain, we are also taking residents outside for walks in our beautiful garden space to enjoy the weather and fresh air!

    • Following social distancing, in groups of no more than 10 (including accompanying staff).

    • Residents will not be permitted to go outside without staff members at this time.

    • Both the staff and resident (if able) will wear a mask and proper hand washing when re-entering the facility.

    • For resident safety, family/friends must not come into the garden area (unless for a scheduled Window Visit).

  • Evergreen continues to actively screen residents and staff for signs and symptoms. Daily communication with Public Health.

  • Window Visits and Video calls are ongoing and must be scheduled in advance to ensure staff availability and resident safety. Video calls can be completed through Zoom, Skype and Messenger only.

  • Window visits are limited and scheduled around designated times set for residents to enjoy the garden space.

    • Scheduling calls/visits can be arranged through:
